The Department of Statistics reported that youth make up one-fifth of Jordan's population.

In a statement marking International Youth Day, the department noted that the number of young people aged 15-24 in Jordan totals 2.3 million out of an estimated population of 11.6 million by the end of last year.

The department highlighted that youth constitute 20 percent of the country's population, with 20.2 percent being male and 19.5 percent female.

The distribution of youth across governorates aligns with the overall population distribution, with the capital governorate accounting for approximately 42 percent of the total youth, followed by Irbid with 19.2 percent, and Zarqa in third place with 14.2percent.

The percentage in other governorates ranges from 1 percent to 5.6 percent.

Demographically, the youth are divided into two groups: adolescents and adults, with a gender ratio of 116.1 males per 100 females.

According to the department, the revised economic participation rate for youth in 2023 was 22.4 percent overall, with 33.5 percent for males and 9.6 percent for females.

Internet usage among demographics in Jordan

Results from the 2022 Household Use of Information Technology Survey revealed significant disparities in computer usage.

Among Jordanians aged 15-19, 48.6 percent use computers, with 45.6 percent being male and 51.9 percent female. For those aged 20-24, 38.5 percent use computers, with 38.1 percent male and 38.9 percent female.

The same survey showed that 97.1 percent of males and 95.8 percent of females aged 15-19 use the internet. For those aged 20-24, internet usage was 97.1 percent for males and 96.8 percent for females.
